Learn About Reasons to Keep An Axolotl Emergency Kit On Hand
REAL CASE #1 – Estelle gets speedy treatment due to having our Axolotl Emergency First Aid Kit on hand
Accidents happen sometimes.
Meet my axolotl "Estelle Getty" (see picture). A couple months ago she had an accident in her tank. Her back leg caught on something and was severely injured. Sometimes we as keepers or breeders must do hard things. I had to sever her leg knowing this was the best thing to do. It was dangling and she wasn't swimming right. Of course, I recommend if something like this happens to yours to take it to the vet and have them do it. I did it clean taking all precautions. She can't swim normally at this time but will soon. What I want to show here is how well her back leg is growing back in. You can see all her toes already. In a few more months I imagine her back leg will be grown fully back in. I have been keeping a close eye on her while keeping her tubbed until she can swim normally again. I treated her first with a small amount of Methylene Blue in her tub water for a couple days, then I used an Indian Almond leaf to help soothe her skin for several weeks. I added some minerals (Holtfretters) to her water every day as well. Now she is kept in normal dechlorinated water. She is doing well but will need to stay tubbed until she can swim normally again. Because I had one of our Axolotl Emergency First aid Kits at my fingertips, I was able to treat her quickly.
Knowing I have everything I need to treat most axolotl issue gives me peace of mind.
I heartily recommend having one our Axolotl Emergency First Aid kits on hand
